CANCER/EVOLUTION

CANCER/EVOLUTION by Brad Jones
In 2018 my wife, Maggie Jones, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She had too many metastases to mention, eye, brain, lymph nodes. Her PET scans looked like an abstract painting where the artist happened to squeeze the red tube a little too hard that day. To this day we call them the Christmas Tree scans.
The next year was a whirlwind journey as she dove into cancer metabolism, voraciously reading everything she could find. Nasha Winters' Metabolic Approach to Cancer. Miriam Kalamian's Keto for Cancer. And books of hope like Radical Remission and Crazy Sexy Cancer. One day she handed me Travis Christofferson's 'Tripping Over the Truth'. I was honestly just stunned. It was an eye opener not only on how cancer might form, but on how the scientific industry works.

Maggie used these books and PubMed papers, to create a ketogenic diet that became a therapy. One year after her diagnosis we were caught off guard when she received the results from her quarterly cancer scans, she was NED, No Evidence of Disease. For anyone interested in what she did, her journey is described in glorious detail on her blog at cancerv.me.
At this point we were of course very happy, but Maggie's focus quickly turned to the question "How come more people don't know about this?" None of the things she found had been recommended by her oncologists, and she had seen a bunch. Multiple doctors at the Mayo Clinic, The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and even two different hospital systems in Hong Kong, where we were living at the time of her diagnosis. None of them recommended anything other than chemo and/or radiation.
This stuff she did wasn't secret. It was backed by scientific evidence. There were a lot of case studies. And as we would come to find out, there were a lot of people that had used metabolic therapies successfully to help treat their cancer diagnosis. She decided to try and help. She became a cancer coach. Unfortunately, she quickly ran into the issue of only being able to help a few people at any given time. That, and the people that understood what she was sharing with them, but couldn't bring themselves to use the knowledge were kind of soul-crushing.
We decided that we might be able to approach this in a different way. What we felt was really needed was a gateway, an introduction. Something that could simply and easily explain a few of the scientific concepts she had utilized, and at the same time inspire and possibly entertain a wee bit. (At least if you consider history and personal stories entertaining.) And what if we could do this while people were just sitting on their couch watching TV? That would really be the best. So the idea of CANCER/EVOLUTION was born.

Today as I write this, we just screened episode one at another film festival, our 28th in just 4 months. The documentary has already garnered over 75 awards (check out IMDB). But the real impact it is having is with patients. The outpouring of positive outcomes and stories is making this journey so rewarding. We are excited to continue sharing the science of cancer metabolism and metabolic therapies with the world.
