REV-Blog

When we started on this journey, this new WOE (way of eating), we were both pretty clueless. But we learned from the best. Like anyone, we didn't start out perfect. Hey, we aren't even close to perfect now. No one starts out as an expert, everyone is a beginner at some point.

In this blog, we want to share mostly what we have learned, our experience, our progress, our struggles. We will also feature guest blogs. If you have something worth sharing, please contact us.

Happy reading

The Road to Healing

Embracing the BBB&E Challenge for Autoimmune Recovery

It has been nearly two years since I last shared my last carnivore challenge. Back then, I couldn't get bloodwork done to evaluate the results. The sudden border closure from you know what, and there was no end to the closure in sight. It was close to Christmas. Think baked keto treats, Christmas events, and plenty temptations. It's a miracle I stayed ketovore.

Worst of all, my inflammatory arthritis started flaring again. I was misdiagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 30 years ago, but the flares still took a toll. They were painful and soul crushing.

In my heart, I knew that a return to carnivore would solve my autoimmune issues. But I also wasn't ready to give up certain treats I had come to love. Now I realize that "not being ready" is basically the same as not wanting to do it. "Not being ready" is a super convenient excuse to reject change.

Another curveball — talk about life being fair — was my completely out-of-whack thyroid. It is a bit embarrassing to admit that I overlooked all the symptoms of hypothyroidism, including being cold. But I wasn't cold all the time, so I didn't clued in.

I discussed this in a recent podcast with Diane, the Evolved Dietician.

No more excuses

I finally decided enough is enough. No more excuses. So, I started a BBB&E challenge in my Facebook group. That's beef, butter, bacon, and eggs only. No dairy (except for the butter) and no sweeteners. Doing the challenge with like-minded people makes the challenge much more fun.

Rediscovering the Carnivore Path

I love meat and eggs. I never get tired of eating them. I even use a raw egg as a creamer in my coffee, though, without sweeteners or flavors, I enjoy my creamy egg coffee. It has no egg bits or unpleasant eggy smell or taste. Click here to learn how to do creamy egg coffe.

How did my first 9 days go?

I thought the sweet cravings were going to be really bad. I was deep into keto treats. Even Dr. Berry told me, "Roxana, [those treats] are not food." But since day 1 of this challenge, I haven't had one craving. It felt like a miracle, like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I no longer obsess about these treats and don't have to feel guilty about giving in.

Here are a few glucose readings. Keep in mind, in 2019 my A1c was 8.5 while on insulin and Metformin. My latest A1c was 5.1, off of all diabetes meds for over 2 years.

The inflammation immediately regressed to the tune of almost 10 pounds of shed water weight in the first week. Great glucose control, great ketones, great energy, no cravings — it was complete bliss.

But, as it goes with autoimmune issues, they don't heal overnight. The scale is merciless. My weight started increasing for two day. This is a sure sign of inflammation. It's frustrating but not unexpected. This time I am in for the long haul. While the group does the challenge for the month of June only, my challenge is open-ended.

Here are some of the meals I ate. With an upcoming exam, I did not feel like putting much effort into variety. Still, the meals were delicious and satiating. Keeping it simple.

Embracing Anecdotal Evidence

In light of my struggles, you might wonder why I remain optimistic that the BBB&E challenge will allow me to heal.

In my quest for healing, I've come across numerous anecdotes and testimonials from group members and Twitter friends who have successfully healed their autoimmune conditions through carnivore. These anecdotes are inspiring and promising. The healing potential of carnivore is massive.

Patience and Perseverance

I understand that my autoimmune issues are severe, and it's important to set realistic expectations. Significant improvements may take six months or even longer to manifest. However, I am fully committed to putting in the necessary effort, remaining patient, and staying dedicated to the BBB&E challenge. True healing requires both time and unwavering commitment.

To ensure I stay on track and maintain my dedication, I will regularly share my progress in my group and on Twitter. If you notice any signs of me slacking, please tag me on Twitter or in mz Facebook group, and I will provide an update.

Final thought:

I'm filled with renewed hope and determination. Nothing will deter me.
